In 1996 E. Richard McDaniel started Deacon training and in May of 1997 was ordained. However, during his deacon training, the Holy Spirit laid out a different plan of action and he accepted his call into the ministry in January 1997. Pastor McDaniel's initial sermon was preached in March 1997 and Union Baptist Church then licensed him.

Under the leadership of Pastor Lindbergh H. Perryman, Pastor McDaniel watched, learned, and grew. Upon the retirement of Pastor Perryman, Pastor McDaniel was called to serve Union as their new leader on July 6, 2000. October 1, 2000 marked the beginning of his leadership. Since that time Union has housed an after school and summer enrichment program, purchased land to be used for expansion of the church, opened its doors to provide a location for a substance abuse program, sponsors a community wide Thanksgiving dinner, and continues to feed, clothe, and minister to the those in need. With a strong emphasis on building the Christian Education Ministry in supporting the development of Jesus' disciples to go therefore and spread the Gospel, many workshops, conferences and revivals have been developed to edify the body of Christ. In 2010, The Young Adult Praise and Worship Service was started to reach more and more for Christ.

Pastor McDaniel continues to serve the Kingdom in his district work for the Eastern Union Missionary Baptist Association. Serving as the former Congress of Christian Education President and currently 3rd Vice Moderator, Pastor McDaniel also served on several community boards and initiatives. He is a proud member of the Columbus Baptist Pastor's Conference and Ministerial Alliance. Pastor McDaniel strongly believes in continual growth and recently completed his biblical studies at Ohio Christian University where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree.  Pastor McDaniel is striving for a higher level as he continues with his postgraduate studies.

In the ten dedicated years Pastor McDaniel has served at Union, he has personally seen to his flock and been a shining example of an upright Godly man both in the community and in the church. In December of 2009 Pastor McDaniel and Union, with the loving support of his First Lady, stepped out on faith and resigned from his secular job with the State of Ohio. Leading by example in obedience and sacrifice unto the Lord and His people. Over the past year, the Lord has moved in a greater way through Union to reach more and more souls for The Savior.

Pastor McDaniel continues to cast vision, preaching the Gospel and teaching God's Word, as he leads the church to; Grow the Congregation - Empower Families - Equip Disciples! He truly is a man on a mission for the Lord!

In addition, First Lady Annette has performed at several venues in and around Ohio including headlining at Vets Memorial in the Broadway play Purlie.
